1. SEAT BELTAlways fasten your seat belt before the vehicle moves. Make sure every passenger is properly seated and restrained, even for a short journey.
2. HELMETA two-wheeler rider and pillion passenger should wear a properly fastened protective helmet. Replace a damaged helmet and never ride with a loose strap.
3. SPEED CONTROLDrive within the posted speed limit and reduce speed when traffic, weather or road conditions demand it. Extra speed reduces the time available to react safely.
4. MOBILE PHONEKeep your attention on the road. Do not text, browse or handle a phone while driving; stop at a safe place before using it.
5. NEVER DRINK AND DRIVEAlcohol can affect judgment, coordination and reaction time. Never drive after drinking; arrange a safe alternative instead.
6. SAFE DISTANCELeave enough space from the vehicle ahead for safe braking. Increase the gap in rain, poor visibility or heavy traffic.
7. USE INDICATORSSignal early before turning, changing lanes or moving away from the roadside. An indicator informs others of your intention; it does not automatically give right of way.
8. CHECK MIRRORSCheck mirrors regularly and before slowing, turning or changing lanes. Also check the blind spot when necessary before moving sideways.
9. LANE DISCIPLINEStay in the correct lane and change lanes only when it is safe. Avoid sudden weaving and follow lane arrows and road markings.
10. PEDESTRIAN & ZEBRA CROSSINGSlow down near pedestrian crossings and be prepared to stop. Give pedestrians the space and time needed to cross safely.
11. SCHOOL ZONEReduce speed near schools and watch carefully for children. Children can move suddenly, so drive patiently and be ready to stop.
12. EMERGENCY VEHICLESStay alert for ambulances, fire vehicles and other emergency vehicles. Give way safely when required without creating another hazard.
13. RAIN & SLIPPERY ROADReduce speed on wet or slippery roads, avoid harsh braking and steering, and increase following distance. Use lights and wipers appropriately for visibility.
14. NIGHT DRIVINGKeep headlights, mirrors and windscreen clean. Use appropriate beams, reduce speed when visibility is limited and never continue driving when dangerously tired.
15. SAFE OVERTAKINGOvertake only where it is permitted and you have a clear, safe view. Never force another road user to brake or change direction because of your overtake.
16. RAILWAY CROSSINGApproach railway crossings slowly and obey gates, lights, signs and instructions. Never try to cross when a train is approaching or the crossing is closed.
17. SAFE PARKINGPark only where permitted and where your vehicle will not block traffic, pedestrians, entrances or emergency access. Secure the vehicle before leaving it.
18. VEHICLE MAINTENANCERegularly check tyres, brakes, lights, indicators, mirrors, fluids and wipers. A roadworthy vehicle is an important part of safe driving.
19. KEEP DOCUMENTS VALIDKeep the required Driving Licence, Registration Certificate, insurance and PUC valid and available in an accepted physical or digital form as applicable.
